Short guides for building your catalog, scoring neighbors, and running compare — without treating MusicReference as a DAW or audio analyzer.
You do not need a complete library on day one. Neighbors only come from what you have already described — the catalog gets more useful as you grow it.
MusicReference is a private browser catalog with two roles:
You can change a song’s type later if a draft becomes a reference for something else. Catalogs are paginated and searchable so large libraries stay manageable.
Matching is driven by a structured song portrait you enter — not by uploading stems or multitracks. Typical fields include tempo, length, time signature, key, mode, chords, melody contour, instruments, stereo field, tags, and theme. Completeness cues show where a portrait is thin.
Optionally attach a public listen link (for example a YouTube embed) for context. That link is for listening, not for scoring.
MusicReference ranks neighbors — similar songs from your own catalog — using the fields you filled in.
This is not a DAW and not a waveform analyzer. Scores come from the portraits you maintain.
Open Compare to put two songs side by side — typically a My Song against a reference — and inspect how they align on the same portrait factors. Use it when a ranked list is not enough and you need a deliberate decision on one pair.
Settings belong to your organization workspace. Only people with product access see them.
MusicReference is an organization plan: one trial or paid plan covers active members of your organization. The organization owner manages checkout and billing.
